Cutting Through the BS

Originally distributed by the CJPME in August of 2023.

Dear Reader,

CJPME is pleased to announce the release of its brand new primer on the Palestinians’ “Right to Resist.”  Like many people, you might have been told about the Palestinians “right to resist,” but weren’t sure how it applied.  It’s especially confusing when Palestinians fighting Israeli soldiers in places like the Jenin refugee camp are mislabelled as “terrorists” by media.

Our new primer answers questions like:

  • Where does the “right to resist” come from?
  • How is the “right to resist” recognized in law?
  • Are there limitations to the “right to resist”?
  • Does Canada support Palestinians’ “right to resist”?

Read the primer to learn how the UN affirms armed struggle against colonialism and occupation.  See where international law supports armed resistance for self-determination.  Learn how both the Harper and Trudeau governments have fallen woefully short, condemning Palestinian resistance, while supporting Israeli violence.

Our primer on the Palestinians “right to resist” is just one of over 200 factsheets published by CJPME, published in both English and French.  If you believe in this type of research and public education, please consider supporting our work financially.

Making Useful Resources Accessible

CJPME exists to help educate around the question of Palestine-Israel.  Other factsheets published in 2023 include:

  • The Palestinian Authority’s Martyr’s Fund. Often maligned by Israel, this primer explains the necessity of the “Martyr’s Fund,” and why it enjoys such massive support among Palestinians.
  • Israel’s Extreme Right-Wing Government.  Calling a government “extreme right-wing” is not theoretical!  Israel’s current government and component parties are blatantly racist, openly calling for violence against Palestinians, and for their wholesale expulsion.  This summary factsheet can be shared with anyone who doubts the true nature of Israel’s fascist leadership.
  • Israeli Settler Terrorism.  The surge in Israeli colonist terrorism has been largely ignored by the media and international leaders, but in 2023, Palestinians face increasingly violent, emboldened and zealous Israeli colonists.  Share this factsheet with anyone who questions whether Israel is a violent settler-colonial state.
  • The Nakba.  2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the Nakba, and CJPME published a factsheet to highlight the significance of the Nakba, and its relevance today.

See all our factsheets – going back to 2004 – here. Whether the blockade of Gaza, Israeli apartheid, the BDS movement, or hundreds of other topics, we’ve got it covered – all with a Canadian angle!

Live in Quebec?  Join our campaign demanding that Quebec leaders abandon their shameful plans to open a trade office in Tel Aviv.  Human rights groups assert that Israel practices apartheid; Quebec should not be promoting trade with an apartheid state!

Can you support our work?

Our factsheets and all our other activities aim to support the human rights and liberation of Palestinians.  If you believe in such solidarity work, please consider making a gift of financial support to CJPME.  Monthly donations are especially helpful, as they sustain our ongoing work and make it easier for us to strategize for the future. If you prefer, you may also donate over the phone (438-380-5410), or complete and mail in this form. Thank you!

In Solidarity,

Tom, Michael, Jason, Dan, Mohamed, Lynn and the rest of the CJPME Team
