MOSCOW (Sputnik) – US President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday that he would wait for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to address the resolution to the Ukrainian conflict. /…/ During the annual Direct Line session on Thursday, Putin expressed his readiness to meet with Trump.
Comment: As I suspected earlier, [ 1 ], [ 2 ], a deal had most likely been reached in negotiations conducted by US and Russian intelligence organizations. The outcome is already visible. It looks like Russia gets Ukraine and the US/Israel team gets Syria. Trump and Putin will just rubber stamp it.
Russia became involved in the Syrian conflict to defend its pipeline corridors and energy exports to Europe. However, the situation has changed. As Russia’s European energy markets were being blocked and destroyed, Russia transferred its outputs eastward, to China and India. With this change completed, there is no need for Russia’s active military involvement in the war in Syria. On the contrary, withdrawal from this conflict will allow Russia to save a lot of money and resources that may be more effectively used elsewhere. For US and Israel, this means a step forward in completing projected pipeline corridors and in implementing the Greater Israel project. Of course, the wars will officially continue to enforce the terms of this agreement locally but you can tell that Russia’s interest in Syria and America’s interest in Ukraine are simultaneously declining.
