Comment: I wonder if Trump’s 25% tarrifs tool is intended and designed to force Canadian businesses (including American companies that operate in Canada) to move back to the US? I remember Trump talking about using the same mechanism to force US companies offshored to China to return home. Obviously, reversing the offshoring trend is part of Trump’s agenda. I would not be surprised, if he decided to expand it to Canadian companies. as well. What will we do, if this is the case?
BTW., what does defending “tarrif-free trade with the US mean”? For corporations only. I, as an individual, still have to pay customs and taxes, when I order something from the US, even if similar products are not available in Canada and my purchase does not hurt Canadian businesses. There is no “free trade” for the people. And I can’t write off my costs like businesses do.
