Dr. Jerod Ochsendorf: Medical Freedom Is Non-Negociable

Comment: Yes, as long as this does not mean privatizing the health care system and placing it out of reach of oridinary people – especially now, as we are approaching a serious economic crisis. Y0oung people don’t need doctors and treatments often. they are usually healthy. However, old and retired people don’t have a full coverage insurance anymore and will not be able to afford health care, if they have to pay for it by themselves. They used to be young, too, and paid for their parents’ generation. Now, it’s their turn to be helped. That’s the only way in a civilized society. Unfortunately, the culture is changing and this is difficult to undo. As always, greed and selfishness are the culprits. Young people should remember that they, too, are getting old.

Health Care, including medical schools and their curricula, should remain in public domain and should be freed from private-public partnerships, especiall from the Big Pharma donors. Big Pharma should pay fair taxes to the governments and the governments should finance the Health Care system. I know, I know, it is easier for the ministers to just “represent” – (whatever that means), rather than to do the work and be accountable for the results – but work is what we pay them for and it is time to roll up their sleeves and get busy.
