Comment: You cannot fail students or give students bad marks. It started in 1990’s with “What are you doing to my son’s/daughter’s self-confidence?” I have a question for you: Shouldn’t self-confidence be based on some achievement? If we keep awarding students for being lazy and stupid, they will become self-confident lazy and stupid adults. Then, they will become ignorant politicians, managers, scientists, teachers, etc. I saw it coming. This is why we are in trouble.

Comment: Bad policies were not only caused by corruption and treason. They were also caused by incompetence. I was afraid this would happen when we began implementing dumbing down reforms of education in 1990s. It is time we start assessing students’ progress and hiring people based on specific knowledge, credentials and experience again, rather than based on connections or social position, race and other “disadvantaged” status. It is time to return to the old curricula and to learning by understanding, not by memorizing. It is time to restore the priority of academic subjects in our schools.
