Comment: I am including this information for political rather than religious reasons. During the communist post-war era and especially during the martial law outlawing the “Solidarity” movement (1981 – 83), an unprecedented increase in popularity of the Catholic Church and Catholic religion was clearly evident in Poland. This shows that in times of distress, danger, and repression, the social and individual need for spiritual stability, fulfilment, and cohesion rises significantly. Could this be the major mistake that the “elites” are making today in their technocratic calculations and decisions? Could this be the beginning of their undoing? I certainly hope so …

Proposals by European leaders to send military forces into Ukraine have been met with strong opposition from Russia.

“As discussions between the West and Ukraine show, all these plans essentially involve providing guarantees through foreign military intervention in part of Ukrainian territory. I very much hope that those hatching such plans are simply trying to attract attention, but I also hope they understand this would be absolutely unacceptable to the Russian Federation and all sane political forces in Europe,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Comment: Well, this coin has two sides. The older generation of Poles (the “boomers”) remember facts and historical truth about the partition of Poland by Russia, (Prussia, and Austria) that lasted 123 years and ended in 1918. They remember the history of Soviet invasion of Poland in 1920. They remember the communist years and repressions of 1945 to 1989 – years under the domination of the Soviet Union. After 1980, they were influenced by the independence faction of the “Solidarity” movement. After 1989, they were strongly influenced by Rusophobic propaganda of the state and some major mainstream media. They have noticed Putin’s attacks blaming Poland for the outbreak of World War 2, although Poland annexed Zaolzie with the same excuses that Russia used to annex Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. Ukraine, as a member of NATO, was seen and strongly desired in Poland as a buffer zone between Russia and Poland, and wider, between Russia and Western Europe.

Comment 1: Ukraine has never been an exporter of natural gas. In 2015 – (the latest year with complete data), Ukraine produced only half of its consumption of natural gas, it imported the rest. It exported zero.
