Comment: Inflation? What used to be 1 trillion now is 1.5 in terms of buying power? Or 3, or 5? I feel this in my budget, although I don’t operate in trillions 🙂

As to the Arctic Circle: Each coastal country in the Arctic has its own territorial waters, its own continental shelf and its own Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) extending up to 200 nautical miles from the low tide shoreline. These “borders” are strictly defined by international law. If Russians want to militarize their EEZ, that is their right. Given the past US wars for energy resources and pipeline corridors (based on a pack of lies), I would say that Russia and Denmark have a good reason to boost their defences in the Arctic. Other than that, in the international waters, (outside of the territorial waters), all countries should be able to sail their vessels and no country should seek to control them. Sort of like the US position on the South China Sea, isn’t it?

“Territorial waters extend 12 nautical miles (nm) from a coast, where a country has full sovereignty, while the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) extends up to 200 nm, granting special rights for exploring and exploiting marine resources (like fishing, oil, gas) but allowing foreign navigation and overflight. The key difference is full control in the territorial sea versus resource-focused, but less absolute, rights in the EEZ, which is governed by the UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea).”

“Continental shelves, territorial waters (territorial sea), and Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) are maritime zones defined by international law (UNCLOS) that grant coastal states increasing rights, from full sovereignty in the territorial sea (up to 12 nm) to resource rights in the EEZ (up to 200 nm), and seabed resource rights on the continental shelf (potentially beyond 200 nm if geologically justified). The key difference is scope: territorial waters are sovereign territory, EEZs cover water column and seabed resources (up to 200 nm), while the continental shelf specifically relates to the seabed and subsoil, potentially extending much further.”
