Comment #1: “…the Saudi oil going to Yanboo will not come out of the Red Sea.” – How about the Suez Canal? Is it closed as well? Or, are we only targeting the delivery of energy resources to China and that part of the world?
Comment #2: So, Iran is retaliating by attacking the Gulf States but Iran was not attacked by them, it was attacked by Israel and the U.S. What does the international law say about a situation like that? Iran does not have a “defense” card to play. Moreover, if we accept that Iran has the right to attack the Gulf States because they harbor American military bases, then Russia had the right to attack Ukraine, when Ukraine wanted to become a member of NATO and harbor NATO military bases on Russia’s borders. Moreover, again, does it mean that Russia has the right to attack European countries that support Ukraine in the current war against Russia or that Ukraine has the right to attack Belarus? It’s getting thick and complicated but we should sort it out and we should apply the same standards to all these situations. These standards should be consistent with current international law.
I am looking for a hard legal evidence. Which international law states that Iran and Russia have the right to attack sovereign states that exercise their right to house foreign military bases or to sell their weapons to another country? Especially, when:
1. The war was not formally declared and we only have a “Special Military Operation” in Ukraine;
2. Art. 1.1 of the UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights clearly states, “All peoples have the right of self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.”
– Does it mean that Ukraine has the right to become a NATO member?
– Does it mean that Ukraine has the right to attack Belarus?
– Does it mean that Russia has no right to attack Europe?
– Does it mean that Israel has the right to attack Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, and Syria?
– There is a difference between the war in Ukraine and the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 – the Cuban military conflict took place in international waters, the U.S. did not invade Cuba (or Russia);
– Does it mean that the US has no right to support Israel?
