(LifeSiteNews) — The homosexual hook-up app Grindr is lobbying to make the embryo-killing practice of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and the baby-commodifying practice of surrogacy easier to access.
Last month, Grindr CEO George Arison wrote an op-ed with Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) in The Hill calling on politicians to make fertility service costs fully tax-deductible, cover surrogacy through insurance, and use a definition of infertility that would include homosexual couples.
“Being involved in making this possible matters a lot for our users,” Arison told Politico. “But I also think it’s critical to realize that making surrogacy and fertility care more accessible to people benefits all Americans, regardless of whether they’re gay or straight.”
Grindr, the biggest and most popular gay mobile app in the world, uses the GPS position of users to allow them to browse other users’ profiles according to their distance.
Grindr’s IVF and surrogacy advocacy highlights the importance of these practices to homosexuals who wish to adopt children. The hookup app company has highly valued the ethically fraught practices for years. In 2024, Grindr announced that its employee benefits package would cover the costs of IVF and surrogacy.
The IVF process entails the conscious creation of scores of “excess” embryonic humans which are eventually killed. It has been estimated that more than a million embryos are frozen in storage in the United States after IVF and that as many as 93 percent of all embryos created through IVF are eventually destroyed. A 2019 NBC News profile of Florida IVF practitioner Craig Sweet acknowledged that his practice has discarded or abandoned approximately a third of the embryos it places in cold storage.
Surrogacy, the sale of children produced by the hire of women, commodifies babies as goods to be purchased, allowing them to be handed over to same-sex couples and, at least in the U.S. and the U.K., to convicted pedophiles.
The international surrogacy industry is booming in America as it is shutting down worldwide. India banned surrogacy tourism after repeated horror stories of demands for abortion and babies abandoned by buyers who changed their minds. Russia banned it in 2022, it is illegal in China, France, Germany, and Slovakia, and last year Italy declared all forms of surrogacy “a universal crime.”
The U.N. reported surrogacy shares characteristics with human trafficking and slavery – a view echoed by the European Union’s legal commission, EuroJust. The special rapporteur of the U.N. on violence against women and girls said “surrogacy is the sale of children, which is a crime.”
