Comment: I find it hard to believe that Israel would negotiate with Hamas, if it did not have to. It looks like Israel is not really winning this war or achieving its declared goals. Could this be a pressure from the incoming US administration? Or, is this a result of the situation on the front lines?

On January 10, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) released footage of what it called an underground “missile city,” claiming that weapon production had ramped up, contrary to Israeli claims.

The video shows IRGC Commander-in-Chief Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami visited an underground missile production facility with tunnels large enough to hold large trucks and multiple production areas.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continue to take losses in the Gaza Strip amid reports suggesting that a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal with the Hamas Movement is near. — [Kavoshmedia]

Qatar, a key mediator between Israel and Hamas, said on November 14 that a day earlier it had presented both parties with a “final” draft of the agreement. In addition, The Associated Press reported that Hamas accepted the deal as well, citing two officials involved in the talks. — [SouthFront]

Comment: I wonder if Trump’s 25% tarrifs tool is intended and designed to force Canadian businesses (including American companies that operate in Canada) to move back to the US? I remember Trump talking about using the same mechanism to force US companies offshored to China to return home. Obviously, reversing the offshoring trend is part of Trump’s agenda. I would not be surprised, if he decided to expand it to Canadian companies. as well. What will we do, if this is the case?
BTW., what does defending “tarrif-free trade with the US mean”? For corporations only. I, as an individual, still have to pay customs and taxes, when I order something from the US, even if similar products are not available in Canada and my purchase does not hurt Canadian businesses. There is no “free trade” for the people. And I can’t write off my costs like businesses do.

Comment: Let’s keep some balance here. Predatory capitalism and imperialism are just as bad as communism and fascism. It is the predatory capitalism that makes communism appealing and popular. Likewise, it is the aggressive communism that makes capitalism appear as an attractive alternative. Both are bad for the people.
