July 16, 2026 Wildfires maps over Ontario

No active wildfires in Southern Ontario:

Suspiciously lined-up fires N and NW of Lake Superior, as if “dropped” by a flying-by aircraft using directed energy weapons (DEW). These fires start (or end) at the Canada-U.S. border:

The Matagami Fire (Rivière Harricana, QC) that started on June 18 is “out of control”. Other wildfires N and NNE of Lake Ontario are far away, in northern Quebec, about 2000 km away. No other wild fires in that direction:

Comment: I live in Hamilton, Ontario. On July 16, I went to a local park to feed the squirrels. After about 1-hour walk, I started to cough so badly that I hardly made it back to my car. I have never experienced anything like that in the 76 years of my life. Even a few years ago, when we also had wildfires in Ontario, I could smell the smoke but it did not cause respiratory problems. This time, however, I could not smell the smoke and I was in trouble. I remember thinking that it had to be something different than a normal forest fire. The wind was changing from SW in the morning to NW by the end of the day. I was walking there in late morning, when there were no wildfires SW and W of Hamilton. There was one active wildfire spot (the Matagami fire in Quebec, straight north of Lake Ontario) that was “out of control” and burning since June 18. This, is not a large fire and I doubt that it could produce such a quantity of smoke as we are seeing in Hamilton for two days, especially that the wind on July 16 did not come from the North. Other wildfires in northern Quebec were too far to cause such concentrated smog in Hamilton.

Final Comment: As of July 17, 2026 @ 9:00 p.m. There are many maps of current forest fires and air quality available online by now. They are not always consistent and they include small fires that are under control. They also change quickly, as the situation develops. Generally, the smoke in Ontario is moving eastward and is slowly clearing around Hamilton. In some areas of Southern Ontario rains are expected, which should further mitigate the risk of wildfires. This, however, may change quickly.

I published my original comment on July 16. The following day, I found maps published on internet that showed wildfires west of Hamilton, in the area of London, Ontario. These fires were not there on July 16 but they addressed my concerns about the western winds, just one day too late. I have trouble trusting the official narrative around these issues. I hope that I am wrong.
